The Ceremony
Jaimie Ginsberg— Smith College field hockey coach— officiated the ceremony having united Grace & Alexa at Smith College in 2010 on the field hockey team. After welcoming everyone and introducing the couple, Grace & Alexa performed the ancient ritual of handfasting.
Handfasting unifies a couple, bringing them together before loved ones in a sign of dedication to both each other and all.
As the ribbons wind around their hands, Jaime called upon the power of each color of the rainbow to imbue their relationship today and always. I call upon the power of…
-
Red – for passion and strength…
-
Orange – for vitality and encouragement…
-
Yellow – for joy and kindness…
-
Green – for abundance and growth…
-
Blue – for patience and serenity…
-
And Purple – for wisdom and magic.
Then, the couple exchanged vows and bands. The rings were made by Providence jeweler, Reliable Gold, and each is inscribed with the wedding date.
Alexa's brother, Eric, and bandmate Dan played acoustic Bob Marley medleys for the ceremony. The aisle blossomed in verdant botanicals provided by beloved family friend & florist Michele Comeau of To Each His Own Designs.
Each moment was captured artfully throughout the day by photographer Therese Ianaco and on video by Visual Sound Productions.
Cocktail Hour
After a recessional of waving Progress flags, tears & cheers, everyone walked through the beautifully renovated old English manor venue to gather in the courtyard for cocktail hour.
Hors d'oeuvres traveled through light pink-clad tables adorned with fresh flowers and candles. Guests enjoyed Shepherd's Run wines, as well as an open selection of beverages from the bar. A table displayed framed photos of Grace & Alexa over the years and a guest book.
The sun-filled courtyard burst with joy through the sounds of local musician and beloved artist of the couple, Alexus Lee. She performed select jazz, reggae, and popular hits accompanied by a three-piece band of piano, guitar, and bass.
Reception
Guests entered the Great Hall to round tables set with white linens, gold-rimmed plates, and a bounty of wildflowers. As guests enjoyed beverages and ambient music from Visual Sound Productions, Grace & Alexa entered the Hall as a formal couple. Speeches by the couple's fathers complemented the artisan 3-course meal.
The couple returned, now outfitted in sequins, to kick off the dancing party with their first dance to Love on Top by Beyonce -- a beloved artist of Grace & Alexa, as well as a favorite song for the Smith College field hockey class of 2014. Friends & family joined in on the dancing, bringing raucous fun and sweet moves under the beauty of the Harvest Full Moon. A photobooth featuring an array of costumes and props kept everyone engaged and laughing the night away.
